Two Positive COVID-19 Cases Identified

Cordova Medical Response Team has identified two positive COVID-19 results in the fishing industry. Both cases have mild symptoms and the patients are in isolation. They are following the guidance of their medical provider and public health officials. All known close contacts of the patient have been identified and are in quarantine. There was no community interaction with these individuals.

These cases will be reflected on the Cordova COVID Dashboard updated 8/5/2020. Please refer to the Cordova dashboard for case counts updated daily for the previous day.

The City of Cordova and local medical experts are in close contact with the State of Alaska and the Department of Health and Social Services to address the influx of cases in this community. The State continues to offer support, as needed.

The Cordova Medical Response Team reminds the community we are now in Status Yellow.

LEVEL 3 – WATCH: PROCEED WITH CAUTION: Local City Emergency Declarations implemented. Incident Management Team and Emergency Operations Center standing up. If the situation is stable or we are seeing a slow increase in cases, we may ask for voluntary measures to flatten the curve. Cordova follows the State’s lead after the Cordova Medical Team and City Council confirms transition is justified using metrics recommended by the State of Alaska. Prepare Community for closing of public spaces and implement City Rules and Mandates.

Each of the following actions is proven to decrease the transmission of COVID-19:

  • Wear a face covering over your mouth and nose when in public spaces.
  • Socially distance by at least 6 feet.
  • Self-isolate and use curbside or to-go deliveries.
  • Maintain a small, social bubble and only frequent public places when necessary.
  • Diligently wash hands Throughout the day.
  • Wipe down often-touched surfaces with disinfecting wipes.
